10 yogic morning routines for a positive start into your day

1. Positive Affirmation

First thing even before you open your eyes can be a positive affirmation or a positive mantra, that you say or think to yourself. Yoga begings in your head. My positive affirmations are: “I am a peaceful beeing and I accept everyone as they are.” You can choose your own positive affirmation for your morning routine.

2. Stretch

Waking up sometimes feels we are less flexible than in the evening. Therefore it is so important to stretch your body out first thing you do, when you go out of your bed. Even if it is only one long downward facing dog combined with a Dolphin pose, childs pose and puppy pose you will feel the differnce in your yoga practice later that day.

3. Cold water in face and wrist to wake you up

I love this trick in the morning and I practice it many years. Cold water keeps the blood circulating in your face and hands quickly and gives you a nice morning glow. Also it helps you with waking up and beeing refreshed straight away.

4. Oil pulling

Another ayurvedic treat from India that I learned in the time, when I was there: Oil Pulling. You can use coconut oil or other oils mixed with essential oils. You can buy them already made for you or you mix them easily together yourself. The list of benefits of oil pulling is long, some are:

  • Whitens teeth
  • kills harmful bacterias in your mouth
  • Improves skin conditions
  • May help prevent cavities
  • Alleviates headaches + migraines
  • Fullbody detox
  • Improves hormone imbalances

6. Meditation

Morning meditation is the most powerful one, as we are still between sleep and awaken. Your brain produces alpha waves (8 – 12Hz) when you are awake and relaxed and not processing much information. Like first thing in the morning, just before you go to sleep, when you’re daydreaming or practicing Meditation.

7. Pranayama

Pranayama in the morning also detoxifies your lungs and your whole body. Some easy exercises of Pranayama can help you with a positive and healthy start into your day.

8. Sun Salutation

My favorite way to start into a new day here bye Yoga with Tosca is of course the Sun Salutation. Even if you are very busy or lazy, you always have time for 4 rounds of sunsaltution, that stimulates your whole body and mind.

9. Healthy breaky

Start your day with a healthy breakfast. This could be a nutricious oats porridge, fruit salad, homemade energy bars and food with lots of proteins and vitamins to boost your metabolism in the morning.

10. Morning Routine / plan / schedule your day

A good morning also starts, when you make a schedule about your day and stick to it. You plan your day ahead and set goals and intentions, that can be reached. If you have freetime in the afternoon and evening you will be more relaxed after done work and you will feel better, when you set and achieved your goals of the day.
